Philosophy, Greek philosophia, literally “the love of wisdom”: according to the anceint Greeks the pursuit of wisdom (insight) or the sapience itself.

Contrary to other sciences, philosophy is not restricted to specific areas or methods. The term itself is also subject of philosophical discussions. It is a methodical reflexion about thinking, the world and the human existence.

Core areas of philosophy are the logic (science of consecutive thinking), ethics (science of right action) and metaphysics (science of first causes of being and of science); furthermore, the theory of cognition and of science.
